Bin sizes and requests for bigger/smaller bins
Bin sizes
Bin type | Standard size | Sizes available |
| Rubbish | 80L | 80, 120 and 240L |
| Recycling | 120L | 120 and 240L |
| Food and garden organics (FOGO) | 120L | 120 and 240L |
| Glass | 80L | 80, 120 and 240L |
Change the size of your bin
240L rubbish bins are being phased out for commercial properties. If they are reported missing, damaged or stolen, they will be replaced with 80L rubbish bins.
FOGO bins can only be upsized to 240L if the additional space will be used for garden waste rather than food scraps. This is due to weight restrictions.
Damaged bins
If your bin has been damaged, please submit an online request to have it repaired, then leave it at the front of your property. We'll repair or replace it within 10 business days, free of charge. You can still use your damaged bin in the meantime.
Lost and stolen bins
Please wait until 4pm on bin collection day before reporting your bin missing.
Reported lost or stolen bins will be replaced within five business days.
Your new bin will be the same size as the bin that's registered to your property, except for commercial properties.
Missed collections
Please wait until 4pm on bin collection day before reporting your bin missing.
New bins
You can request a second recycling, food and garden organics (FOGO) or glass bin.
You can also request new bins if you are setting up a new waste service at an address in Yarra where there are no Council bins.
Overflowing public litter bin
If you notice that a public litter bin is overflowing, you can report it and we'll empty it.
Worm farms or compost bins
We offer compost bins and worm farms at a subsidised rate. Visit our composting and worm farming page for more information.
Bin requests for apartment buildings
If your apartment building has Council bins that are regularly overflowing, please ask your Owners Corporation to contact us to organise a site assessment.
We can review your bins to make sure the number of rubbish, recycling, food and garden organics (FOGO) and glass bins is suitable and meets the needs of your apartment building.
