Tell us your thoughts on the draft Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan
We’re inviting the community to review and provide feedback on the draft Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan before it is adopted by Council later this year.
A plan for a healthier Yarra
Yarra’s Public Health and Wellbeing Plan guides Council’s work in supporting, improving and promoting our community’s health and wellbeing over a four-year period. It outlines how we support our community through programs, services, infrastructure and facilities to ensure Yarra is a place that encourages health and wellbeing for everyone.
Evidence-based and community-informed
The draft Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan for 2025–2029 is informed by the best available evidence on the health and wellbeing of our local community. This is compiled in the recently published Yarra Health and Wellbeing Profile [ PDF, 5.96 MB] , available as an Executive Summary [ PDF, 603.62 KB] and as a series of 10 health and wellbeing snapshots [ PDF, 5.35 MB] .
We’ve also aligned the draft Plan with the requirements of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, and the relevant priorities of the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2023–27.
Priority areas within the new draft plan have been informed by the feedback and ideas shared with us through extensive community engagement conducted for our 2025–29 Council Plan. This included engaging with a Community Working Group through a deliberative engagement process.
The priority areas have also been informed by two workshops with our Health and Wellbeing Expert Reference Group, which included 20 stakeholders from Yarra’s local health and social support organisations.
Proposed priority areas
The proposed seven priority areas that are included in the draft Plan are:
First Peoples’ Health and Wellbeing
Safe and respectful communities
Climate resilient households and communities
Food security and healthy food environments
Mental and social wellbeing
Reduced impacts of alcohol, drugs, vaping and tobacco
Active living
