Sight Ceramics for Melbourne Design Week

Wednesday 16 March 2022 - Saturday 26 March 2022

Enter a world of handmade textured ceramics that support the visually impaired in Australia and across the globe. Sight Ceramics will be exhibited at Seekers in Fitzroy throughout Melbourne Design Week 2022, presented by NGV.

The design and creation of textured ceramics aims to celebrate the various ways to connect with our environment through tactile sensation. Rukaiya, founder of Sight Ceramics was influenced through the experience of volunteering at NextSense (previously known as the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children). Rukaiya witnessed the difference NextSense makes in the lives of visually impaired children and the importance of textures in understanding and connecting with the world around them. As a ceramicist, Rukaiya primarily wheel throws functional ceramics that aim to raise awareness about visual impairment.

All proceeds will be donated equally between two not-for-profit organisations; Sight for All and NextSense.

The exhibition will be open between 10am and 5pm between Wednesday 16 March to Saturday 19 March, and between Tuesday 22 March to Saturday 26 March.
