Yarra City Council’s Richmond Youth Hub has become a vital lifeline for young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds living in the North Richmond public housing estate.
Since opening in 2021, this youth-led initiative has created a safe, supportive space where young people can come together to build connections, access services, and pursue their aspirations.
Funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), the Richmond Youth Hub was developed to reduce social isolation for the young people living at the estate and was co-designed by the young residents themselves. This youth-driven approach ensures that the voices of young people are central to the decision-making that shapes the programs and services offered at the Hub.
Zac Lovett, Team Leader at the Richmond Youth Hub says the space is a vibrant and inclusive community where young people can relax, socialise and explore and develop their skills and creative interests. He says:
Richmond Youth Hub is a place where young people from the housing estate can come for personalised support and advice, express themselves through different creative programs, become a voice for their community, or just hang out in a safe space.
For Melody*, going to Richmond Youth Hub gave her new career pathways to explore.
“The workers here are role models,” she says.
Meeting them and working with them has inspired me to want to be a youth worker myself. It’s motivated me to help other young people in the community just as I have been.
Located at 110 Elizabeth Street in Richmond, the Richmond Youth Hub provides empowering opportunities for youth leadership, creativity and social connection in the heart of North Richmond.
