Have your say to improve road safety on Rathdowne Street

The Rathdowne Street Road Safety Study is part of Yarra's commitment to improving road safety for all road users.

09 Oct 2026

Yarra City Council is investigating Rathdowne Street in Carlton North between Park Street and Princes Street to identify road safety improvements.

We are looking into Rathdowne Street as there have been crashes involving people walking or cycling, and we'd like to improve road safety.

The area was also previously identified through the Carlton North Local Area Place Making Plan (LAPMP), with some changes installed in the wider neighbourhood. We will check the other changes proposed to see if they should progress and identify any further safety improvements on Rathdowne Street to reduce the number of crashes.

We'll use community feedback, crash data and site observations to identify ways to improve accessibility and safety for everyone using Rathdowne Street. Some changes to traffic conditions may require approval by the State Government Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) following a Council decision.

Have your say

If you walk, ride, drive or travel along Rathdowne Street, we want to hear about your experiences and any safety concerns.
