Draft Waste and Recycling Strategy available for community feedback

Yarra City Council has developed a draft Waste and Recycling Strategy, informed by community feedback, and is now inviting residents to have their say.

19 Jun 2026

Yarra City Council is aiming to create a waste and recycling system that works for everyone - one that is easy to access, reduces waste generation, and supports the needs of a growing and diverse population.

The draft Waste and Recycling strategy builds on feedback gathered from the community last year, when residents were asked to share their views on waste and recycling in Yarra.

The draft strategy sets out both short- and long-term objectives aimed at improving waste management across the municipality. It focuses on creating more sustainable services, reducing overall waste, and responding to key challenges such as rising operational costs and evolving state regulations, which continue to impact local councils and their communities.

Residents are encouraged to review the draft strategy and provide feedback before 11:59pm on Sunday, 5 July 2026 by visiting Your Say Yarra.
