The Show You Have a Loving Heart program brings vital support and companionship to senior public housing residents, earning it the title of Community Initiative of the Year.
Run by the Yarra Chinese Friendship Association, this initiative provides regular home visits, meal deliveries, and medical support to elderly Chinese Australians living in the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate. Founded 20 years ago by Xiao, the association now has 170 members, many over the age of 80.
Beyond essential care, the group organises weekly Mahjong, chess, and dance sessions, bringing together over 100 participants to foster connection. During the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative was crucial in distributing masks and food, exemplifying values of cultural harmony and community wellbeing.
