Along with hosting high-level competitions, the club also plays host to many social gatherings for the Alphington community.
As it enters its 104th year, the Alphington Bowls Club’s long-awaited clubhouse refurbishment has moved a step closer, following Yarra City Council’s approval to select a preferred redevelopment option at its February Council Meeting.
Abutting Alphington Park and close to the Yarra River, the Alphington Bowls Clubhouse requires substantial upgrades to improve accessibility and ensure compliance with building codes.
A refurbishment of the existing structure was preferred by both Council and the Club over an option to replace the clubhouse with a new one.
“Tonight’s decision recognises the important role that the Club plays in the community – for its members as well as the growing population, not just in Alphington and the YarraBend development, but the City of Yarra more broadly,” said Yarra City Council Mayor, Stephen Jolly, following the meeting.
Along with hosting high-level competitions, the Club also plays host to many social gatherings for the Alphington community. It was determined that the option to refurbish the clubhouse, rather than replace it, would provide the Club with the ability to trade throughout any future works, ensuring ongoing access to its facilities.
