Yarra advocates for our community through Parliamentary Inquiry

We’ve been ensuring that the interests of our community are represented in Victorian Government feedback processes.

We’ve been ensuring that the interests of our community are represented in Victorian Government feedback processes. Recently, we’ve provided feedback to:

  • a consultation on the 30 Year Infrastructure Victoria Strategy; and
  • Victorian Government Inquiry into Victoria Planning Provisions amendments (VC257, VC267 and VC274).

30 Year Infrastructure Victoria Strategy

Council’s feedback on the draft 30 Year Infrastructure Victoria Strategy highlighted the importance of:

  • housing growth being matched by State and Federal Government investment in infrastructure and services
  • providing more social and affordable housing
  • managing climate risks and building climate resilient communities
  • increasing capacity and frequency of public transport and safe active transport suitable for people of all ages and abilities
  • planning for changing needs and diverse communities

Parliamentary Inquiry into Victoria Planning Provisions amendments (VC257, VC267 and VC274)

Our submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Victoria Planning Provisions amendments (VC257, VC267 and VC274) echoed many similar sentiments. While providing support for the principles of the amendments, we noted that:

  • proper community consultation for the amendments is essential to ensure trust from the community and an understanding of the implications;
  • clearer guidance is needed to explain how heritage overlays are affected by the reforms;
  • some changes add to the complexity of the Planning Scheme and planning in general;
  • New processes are increasing the financial burden for councils; and
  • new development must be supported by significant State Government investments in public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure, services, public open space, community infrastructure and climate resilience.
