Social Groups for 50+
Each day of the week, activities are hosted by us and by various community groups. Find out about Yarra Community Social Groups and Associations.
Residents of Yarra aged 50-years and over are welcome at our Senior's Hubs (formerly Seniors Citizens Centres), to take part in a range of activities and make social connections.
The hubs are located at Richmond and Collingwood.

Free transport to and from the hubs is available, please contact Yarra Aged Services on 9205 5285 to discuss further.
Our Seniors Hubs are places to meet new friends, participate in activities of interest and learn new skills. Check out our current regular Seniors Hubs activities below:
Our exercise classes focus on exercising and moving the body through a range of stretching, resistance and muscle activation techniques. Our instructor takes the group through a number of exercises accompanied to music to get you moving and help improve strength and mobility.
Tuesdays 11am - 12pm (Collingwood Seniors' Hub)
Thursdays 10.30am - 11.30am (Richmond Seniors' Hub)
The art group work on individual projects, with ideas and inspiration enhanced by a regular facilitator. The afternoon is full of chatting and laughter, and supplies are provided. Participants can bring their lunch if they wish to and enjoy as the creative juices being to flow.
Thursdays 12pm - 2pm (Richmond Seniors' Hub)
The music and singing group enjoy some time with a professional musician/s, who provide engaging and uplifting background music to encourage voices and singers of all levels. If you like music or have always thought of creating music this could be your chance to test out your vocals and have some fun with like-minded individuals.
Wednesdays 1pm - 2pm (Richmond Seniors' Hub)
Community lunches are available at Collingwood, where residents can enjoy an affordable meal (just $6.50 per lunch) and good company.
Mondays and Tuesdays 12pm - 1pm (Collingwood Seniors' Hub)
We are always looking for new activities to engage our over 50 residents, like Tai Chi, dancing and anything else that may be of interest. If you host a particular activity, or are interested in attending one, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Community Engagement Officer on 9205 5439.
Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library
Located at 182 St Georges Rd, Fitzroy North.
Some of Yarra's cultural groups meet in the community rooms at our new library.
The Yugoslavian, Serbian and Greek groups meet on different days of the week for social activities and to prepare a meal and eat together.
50+ social and recreational groups
There is a range of social and recreational groups in Yarra that cater for the needs and interests of residents aged fifty and over. These groups offer a variety of activities, ranging from arts and craft to gentle exercise.

LGBTI Elders Dance Club
All lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) elders and their allies are invited to Fitzroy Town Hall for a free social dance club to learn new dance moves, enjoy delicious catering and drinks, and socialise with other LGBTI elders and allies!
Yarra Men's Shed
Yarra Men's Shed welcomes both men and women of any age and from all cultural backgrounds, to meet and work on projects at their own pace. Members have the opportunity to become involved in 2 or 3 community projects a term and have access to a woodwork shed.
Woodwork, gardening and participating in community projects are just some of the activities enjoyed by people who attend Yarra Men’s Shed.
Executive Committee Member Kevin Shea says:
"Men's Sheds are places where men can get together, work on projects to help their local community and at the same time talk over their problems".
Secretary Richard de Kleyn says:
"The space provides an opportunity for members, community organisations and residents from the broader Yarra community to be welcomed, feel connected and participate in great initiatives and activities".
Yarra Men’s Shed is located in Hoddle Street, next door to Collingwood Neighbourhood House and operates from Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 1pm.
