Parking sensors improve compliance with restrictions. View our map for sensor locations.
Sensor technology is a more accurate and consistent way to manage parking by encouraging drivers to comply with restrictions.
Our parking sensor locations map [ PDF, 245.31 KB] indicates streets where the sensors are. You can zoom in on the map to see the specific suburbs and street names.
Why have we introduced parking sensors?
Sensors help turn parking spaces over efficiently, which helps make street parking more available.
It allows us to manage the limited spaces on our streets in a fair and equitable way.
What is an in-ground sensor?
The in-ground sensor is a small electronic device installed underneath the parking bay. It detects and records the time a vehicle arrives and leaves.
If the vehicle overstays the maximum time permitted in a bay, it alerts our parking officers. They can then determine if an offence has occurred.
How accurate are parking sensors?
Our sensors are extremely accurate. We process an automatic health check each day to ensure they are working correctly.
Sensor technology has successfully operated in Yarra since the initial installation in March 2017.
Works and parking sensors
If you are opening the road for service connections within the parking bay, you must remove the parking sensors before the works.
