Nicholson Village streetscape upgrades
Thursday 07 July 2022

Yarra City Council has begun works to improve the look and feel of the Carlton North precinct – Nicholson Village. Works include upgrades to seating, garden beds, signage, footpaths and the planting of trees along Nicholson Street between Richardson/Reid streets and Park Street.
Installation of new accessible seating and garden bed upgrades have already taken place. These additions aim to improve the aesthetic of the street as well as introduce native fauna and biodiversity to the area.
A new visual identity has been developed for the Nicholson Village precinct and is already being used by many traders. This branding will continue to be rolled out to create awareness of Nicholson Village as a shopping precinct, encouraging users to spend more time in the area. Upcoming works
During August, works will begin on the pavements to improve pedestrian safety and access throughout the precinct. This will involve sections of the footpath and road being closed as asphalt re-surfacing takes place. Signage will be installed to give prior warning to footpath and road users and diversions will be set up to allow safe routes for pedestrians.
Approximately 36 trees are to be replaced throughout the Nicholson Village precinct. This will include the replacement of the existing Bay trees with Crepe Myrtles to provide feature foliage and seasonal colour. Four Plane trees located in front of the Transdev bus depot will also need to be replaced due to ongoing footpath damage and power-line clearance requirements.
