Yarra Community Awards. Contribution to Arts: Caroline Philips

The Yarra Community Awards honour the everyday heroes who make outstanding contributions to our community.

Caroline’s story

Caroline Philips, winner of Arts Award

Caroline is an inspirational leader and advocates for women’s art through her volunteer work with the Women’s Art Register. The Women’s Art Register is a living archive of women’s art practice and an artist-run, not-for-profit community and resource.

Caroline regularly goes above and beyond in her volunteer work with the register. She is an inspiring mentor for women artists and is generous in sharing her knowledge and connecting those around her.

Caroline has led many projects for the register over the years, including transitioning the register’s efforts online during lockdowns, ensuring their work could continue. As with everything Caroline does, she delivered this project seamlessly and balanced volunteers’ capacities and wellbeing.

Congratulations, Caroline – and thank you for your ongoing contributions to our community.

Special mention…

A special shout-out to the Disorganising Project – who have created connections between community members, artists and thinkers to experiment with divergent ways of organising and creating.

We’d also like to acknowledge the broader arts community in Yarra. The past two years have been exceptionally challenging – and it has been heartening to hear of the creative and innovative ways this community has adjusted during the lockdowns.
