Burnley layout changes

On Monday 12 August we made adjustments to the layout of Burnley Golf Course which affects holes 1, 3, and 7. These adjustments will address and reduce the risks associated with errant golf balls breaching the existing boundary fences along Madden Grove and the CityLink freeway.
As part of our commitment to safety for golf users and the community, we’re undertaking a suite of measures to improve safety at Burnley Golf Course.
The golf course remained open during the works from Monday 12 August to Sunday 18 August.
What did the works involve?
We modified the layout and introduced new tee positions on holes 1, 3, and 7.
New signage has also be installed around the course to remind players to be cautious in their play and general actions when playing the course.
What changes are being made to the course?
Hole 1
Hole 1 has been shortened by 40 meters and the tee position placed against the fence line. Players will now need to use shorter clubs to play the hole and the general playing direction of the hole is away from the boundary.
By placing the tee against the existing fencing any tee shot that has large amounts of sidespin or miss direction will be captured by our existing fence line immediately.
Hole 3
Hole 3 has been shortened to a Par 3 hole of approximately 115m in length.
The tee position will be placed past the existing fairway bunkers and in against the existing gum trees to be used as a form of containment for errant balls.
Hole 7
Hole 7 has been shortened slightly by 20 metres and the tee will be positioned closer to the existing fence line.
As per the changes to Hole 1, by placing the tee against the existing fencing any tee shot that has large amounts of sidespin or miss direction will be captured by our existing fence line immediately.
Why are these works required?
The safety of our community and golf users is our priority. The immediate adjustments to the layout of the golf course is required to reduce the number of golf balls breaching the existing boundary fences along Madden Grove and the CityLink freeway.
How long will the course layout be affected?
These adjustments are required to address and reduce the risks associated with errant golf balls breaching the existing boundary fences in the short-term.
We're currently developing a master plan for the Burnley Golf Course that will address mid to long term strategies for the future of the golf course, including safety improvements and community services and programs.
We will communicate further updates as they become available.
