Yarra has been named the healthiest council area in Melbourne in a study commissioned by Domain.

The Domain Healthy Melbourne study, authored by Deloitte Access Economics and Tract Consultants, measured the specific attributes of a suburb that contribute to healthy lifestyles.

The study included walkability, tree cover, access to hospitals, access to fresh food, rates of volunteering, proportion of residents who use active transport to travel to work, and the density of liquor stores and fast-food stores.

The authors ranked each local government area using the same metrics. Yarra was Melbourne’s only 5-star local government area.
