Transporting our community from A to B

Wednesday 01 August 2018

We provide a regular community transport bus service to eligible senior Yarra residents.

Our friendly drivers transport over 180 residents each week from their homes to local activities at neighbourhood houses, health centres, seniors’ hubs and more.

Currently, we support 74 residents each week with door-to-door transport to different shopping centres in Yarra.

Community bus driver Pauline enjoys catching up with her regular passengers, sharing what they've been up to since their last shopping trip. “A lot of our residents live alone and can feel quite isolated. The community transport service is a fantastic way of getting them out of the house and connecting with one another. The hardest part about the job is finding a car park close to their houses!"

Passenger Jana says “we used to shop at Richmond Plaza, but now we go to The Hive in Abbotsford. It’s warm and is good to have lots of shops in one place.”

Another passenger, Valerie, adds “and the security officers at The Hive are fantastic. I always feel safe when I am there, which is important for us.”
