Women’s cricket at Richmond Union is hitting it for a six
Finding pathways into women's cricket with Richmond Union Cricket Club.
Richmond Union Cricket Club’s women’s program has been building momentum, with more local players getting involved and pathways to help players continue from junior through to senior cricket now in place.
Since launching its first Senior Women’s side in 2020, the club has expanded to two teams in the Cricket Southern Bayside competition. Both teams, the First XI at Citizens Park and the Second XI at Burnley Oval, train on Wednesday nights and play on Sundays.
Richmond Union Women’s First XI Captain, Phoebe Bullock, started playing in the junior program and now leads the senior side.
"Every year the women’s program grows stronger, not just in our skills but also in our connection as a team. With every game, we learn more about each other’s strengths and how we can come together, have fun and still compete hard to win games," she explained. "The chance to grow alongside the same group of teammates has strengthened both skills and friendships."
Phoebe added that maintaining a healthy sense of competition across the teams was a key factor to their success in both the finals and grand finals.
"We also love to celebrate our successes as a team at various functions throughout the season," she said. “The group are incredibly supportive and make being part of a team very enjoyable.”
“Whether you have played before and are keen to get back into cricket, or looking to start something new, it’s such a rewarding experience."
With clear pathways for junior girls and a supportive environment for players of all levels, Richmond Union’s women’s program is becoming a strong and vibrant part of local community sport. To find out more about Richmond Union Cricket Club’s women’s teams visit Richmond Union Cricket Club.
