Update your pets details

It is important that you keep your pets details up to date.

Why update your details?

The most common reason pets cannot be reunited with their owners is outdated contact information.

If your pet becomes lost and we cannot contact you, your pet may need to be taken to the animal shelter until ownership can be confirmed.

Keeping your registration and microchip details up to date helps ensure we can contact you quickly and reunite you with your pet as soon as possible.

You should update your pet's details if:

  • You move to a new address, either within or outside Yarra
  • Your phone number, email address or other contact details change
  • Your pet has been desexed
  • Your pet has passed away
  • Your pet is missing or lost
  • You have transferred ownership of your pet to someone else

To help us process your request, please include your animal registration number or tag number where possible.

Updating your microchip details

Updating your pet's registration details with Council does not update your pet's microchip records.

If your contact details have changed, you should also update your details with your pet's microchip registry to ensure you can be contacted if your pet is found.

If you're unsure which registry your pet is recorded with, search your microchip number using Pet Address.

Request a replacement tag

If your pet's registration tag has been lost, damaged or stolen, you can request a replacement tag online or visit one of our customer service centres.

The fee for a replacement registration tag is $8.
