Elizabeth Street Bike Lanes

We’ve restored 48 car parking spaces while maintaining and extending the protected bike lanes.

Yarra City Council has approved the baseline concept design plan for the Elizabeth Street Cycling Corridor that will restore car parking spaces while maintaining protected bike lanes. The plan strikes a sensible balance that incorporates all high and medium-risk recommendations including sightline requirements from the Road Safety Audit.

Changes to the bike lanes include:

  • restoring 48 car parking spots for the community
  • retaining and extending the protected bike lanes in both directions
  • incorporating all the high and medium-risk recommendations from the Road Safety Audit
  • installing speed cushions and a contraflow bike lane on nearby Jonas Street
  • creating a new bike‑friendly weaved grated lid
  • adding a short extension of the westbound protected lane near Hoddle Street.
