Open library

Extended access to the library outside of ordinary opening hours, currently available at four locations.

Wish you could spend more time at the library?

Upgrade your library membership for extended access to library facilities outside regular staffed hours, including before and after ordinary opening hours and on public holidays.

As an Open Library member you can:

  • Use Wi-Fi and public PCs
  • Study, read and relax in dedicated spaces
  • Print, copy, and scan documents
  • Browse, borrow and collect your reservations

This membership upgrade is only available to members aged 16 and over.
An induction is required at each location you'd like extended access, and members must agree to additional terms and conditions.

How to upgrade your membership for Open Library access

Open Library is available at these library locations:

Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library

Located at 182 St Georges Road Fitzroy North, Bargoonga Nganjin means ‘Gather Everybody’ in Woiwurrung, the language of the Wurundjeri people.

Carlton Library

Located in Carlton North, across from Curtain Square, Carlton Library is a welcoming space that hosts regular after-hours events, and is home to a community seed library.

Collingwood Library

Located in Abbotsford next to the Collingwood train station and opposite the Collingwood Town Hall on Hoddle Street, Collingwood Library has study areas and a dedicated children's level, making it ideal for all ages.

Richmond Library

Conveniently located on the corner of Church and Charlotte streets, Richmond Library has an extensive local history collection, dedicated children's area and ample study space for students, making it ideal for all ages.
