Tell us what you think about the plans for a safer Wellington Street
Yarra City Council is seeking your input on one of Yarra’s busiest local streets.
Following successful upgrades to the section of Wellington Street south of Johnston Street, Yarra City Council is now consulting the community on options to upgrade the north section of this important street to make it safer and more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
Council is seeking community feedback on proposed design options for the section from Alexandra Parade and Johnston Street in Collingwood and for the section between Queens Parade and Alexandra Parade in Clifton Hill.

Building a safer Wellington Street
Yarra City Council Mayor, Stephen Jolly said the intersection of Wellington Street and Johnston Street is the busiest site for bicycles in the City of Yarra with more than 2,000 trips every day.
“There are around 1,400 trips are made between 7am and 9am on weekdays alone, making it one of, if not the key north-south biking corridor in Melbourne,” said Cr Jolly.
“But despite representing 20 per cent of all traffic, cyclists are involved in 70% of all crashes, resulting in at least one person on a bike being injured – and this is why we want to do more to make cycling safer and complete work that has been almost ten years in the making.”
Whether you’re a resident, business owner or travel through Wellington Street, Council want to hear your thoughts on the proposed designs.
