Road and footpath inspections across Yarra in February and March
Council will be conducting inspection activities to assess the conditions of our extensive footpath and road networks over the next two months.
Yarra City Council is conducting inspection activities on our extensive footpath and road networks over the next two months, to assist us with future planning for maintenance and upgrades to these vital pieces of infrastructure.
These activities will be undertaken by Council’s asset inspection contractor, Infrastructure Management Group (IMG), who will obtain detailed video imaging and condition assessments of our footpaths and sealed roads.
The information they collect for us will be used for better management of these assets, and help us determine strategies to improve connectivity, mobility and safety for all footpath and road users across Yarra.
Key dates
IMG will be conducting inspections across our 224km road network from Monday 2 February until Monday 16 Feburary.
They will then inspect our 460km footpath network from Monday 2 March until Friday 20 March.
What to look out for
- You may observe quad bikes travelling on footpaths, and camera-equipped vehicles travelling on local roads near your work, home, or other locations within the municipality during this period.
- These assessment bikes and vehicles will be clearly identifiable and operated by certified inspectors. Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be in operation while assessment and video recording activities are completed.
- For footpath assessments, the bikes will travel at a brisk walking speed, and riders will be vigilant and stop wherever possible to not disrupt pedestrian movement or their needs.
- For road assessments, vehicles will be driven at normal speeds and operate seamlessly within the normal surrounding traffic patterns. If you are following one of these vehicles, please keep a full car length behind to allow the rear cameras to have a clear view of the road surface.
Privacy
All cameras on the bikes will be focused on the footpath surface, and all cameras on the vehicles will be focused on road and kerb structures. No image recordings of commercial, residential, private property or structures will be undertaken.
