Yarra City Council is launching ‘Queer Lives Here’, Rainbow Yarra’s new local visibility campaign supporting safety, inclusion and belonging for LGBTQIA+ people across Fitzroy and Collingwood.
Launching on Friday 15 May ahead of IDAHOBIT (17 May), the campaign responds to recent increases in anti-LGBTQIA+ harassment and violence by making a clear, positive statement: Queer people live, work, play and belong here.
Through bold but simple messaging and everyday visibility, the campaign aims to reinforce Fitzroy and Collingwood as proud, welcoming and rainbow-positive places for the whole community.
Local businesses are invited to take part by displaying a window decal featuring a QR code linking people to support services, reporting pathways and community resources.
While each item is small on its own, together they create a visible and welcoming presence across streets and shopfronts – affirming that LGBTQIA+ people are respected and belong here, helping shrink the space where hate feels acceptable and strengthening shared safety and belonging.
Businesses interested in joining the campaign can get in touch with Yarra City Council’s LGBTQIA+ Community Development Officer at [email protected] or on 9205 5555.
