Yarra Decides Hub
In the lead up to the State Election in November 2026, we're calling on all parties and candidates to step up and commit to providing what our city needs.
Yarra Decides campaign
Elections are the perfect time to secure commitments from Parties and Candidates seeking to be elected.
Amplifying Council’s advocacy with local voices will strengthen the influence we have to get good outcomes for the City of Yarra.
The Yarra Decides Hub is a one stop advocacy shop – with Council’s key advocacy asks, ways to get involved, collateral for you to use and share with your networks, and local candidate information and commitments.
Join us and have your voices heard – there is strength in numbers!
Note that
Yarra City Council is strictly non-partisan. It does not endorse any party or candidate.
Yarra City Council has a broad advocacy agenda beyond the focus of the Yarra Decides campaign. Go to our advocacy page for more information.
Our key asks
The City of Yarra is home to over 100,000 people, the workplace of almost 125,000, and a destination for millions of people every year. Our City has over 19,000 businesses and generates more than $37 billion of economic output annually.
The Victorian Government has set a target for us to grow by 44,000 dwellings over the next 25 years. This means almost doubling our housing stock and our population.
In the lead up to the state election, we need all local candidates and political parties to work with Council and community to make sure that Yarra continues to be a great place to live, do business, work and play.
Yarra City Council has eight key asks of local candidates. All are important issues for our community that require action from the incoming Victorian Government.
Save free community health services in Fitzroy and Collingwood
Release unused Government land in Richmond
Protect Yarra's live music industry
Build a North Richmond community hub
Support key worker affordable housing
Upgrade Richmond Library
Help refurbish Alphington Bowls Club
Move the MSIR
Our campaign – get involved!
We want to make sure that all Parties and Candidates know the opportunities and challenges facing our City. And the key asks that will help us face them head on and produce the best outcomes for our community.
That’s why we’re encouraging our community to get involved - help us promote our key asks and make sure your local candidates know what’s important to you.
We’ll be monitoring candidate commitments, hosting community forums with candidates, and producing collateral for everyone to use. You can get involved by:
Coming to our community events and forums
Using our collateral to share information with your networks and promote key asks
Keeping up to date with who our local candidates are and the commitments they’re making
Contacting candidates directly (you’ll find their contact details in our Candidate Overview)
Organising community petitions
Contacting news outlets to share stories, raise awareness and reach a wider audience.
We’ll let you know as Yarra Decides collateral becomes available and how to access it.
