You can ask that – celebrating Refugee Week

Wednesday 17 June 2020

Join us via Facebook Live at 12.30pm Wednesday 17 June as we celebrate Refugee Week. This year, Refugee Week runs from Sunday 14 June to Saturday 20 June 2020.

Each year, we acknowledge and celebrate Refugee Week to recognise the important contribution that refugees make to Australia and to our local community here in Yarra. Diversity is at the heart of what makes our community special and what makes Yarra such a vibrant, colourful and unique place.

You can ask that

We’re celebrating the year of welcome and sitting down with Margherita Mezzasoma (Amnesty International) and Nayran Tabiei (Community Leader and Mentor in Human Rights) to chat about Nayran’s journey from her home country in Syria to her life now here in Australia.

Margherita will be asking Nayran a series of questions about her lived experience as a refugee and there’ll be a chance for you to have any burning questions answered too.

The live stream will be available to view on our Facebook page after the event has passed.

Back Your Neighbour

We’re part of the Local Government Mayoral Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum and the Back Your Neighbour campaign and we continue to advocate for the welfare and well-being of refugees and people seeking asylum in our community here in Yarra.
