Collingwood cohealth site to be retained and redeveloped following community adv

On Monday 21 September the Victorian Government announced that the Collingwood cohealth site at 365 Hoddle Street will be retained and redeveloped, providing cohealth with a permanent new home on the ground floor, and also delivering 69 new social homes.  

The Federal Government is supporting delivery of the project through a funding allocation from the Housing Australia Future Fund.  

This follows almost a year of sustained advocacy from both Council and the community to save community health services in Collingwood and Fitzroy. 

Our community has been calling on both Victorian and Federal Governments to take strong action since cohealth first announced its intentions to shut Collingwood community health services and sell the site. Today’s announcement is just that, and we welcome the Victorian Government’s action to ensure that community health services continue operating in Collingwood. 

From early December 2026, cohealth Collingwood will temporarily relocate to 70 Trenerry Crescent, Abbotsford while the redevelopment is underway. This new address is 800 metres from the current Collingwood site and is well serviced by public transport. cohealth Collingwood will continue to operate from this temporary site until the redevelopment is complete. 

This is an important step towards securing the community’s aims in saving these vital community health services and demonstrates the power of collective action. 

However, we cannot stop there. The announcement does not confirm the return of free counselling or community pharmacy services. Council will continue to advocate for the return of counselling and pharmacy services along with sustainable bulk-billed GP care.
