Medical practitioner parking permits allow doctors to park in designated Area 50 bays near Yarra hospitals and medical practices.

If you're a doctor, a medical practitioner parking permit allows you to park in specifically designated medical (Area 50) parking bays near hospitals and medical practices in Yarra.

Who can apply?

You can apply for a medical practitioner parking permit if you:

  • practice at a hospital or medical practice in Yarra
  • have an existing medical bay (Area 50 sign) where you practice.

Number of allowed permits

You can apply for a maximum of two permits. Each permit must be attached to a specific vehicle.

What documents to include

Proof of vehicle ownership

You must provide one of the following documents with your application.

  • Registration certificate or renewal notice
  • Contract of sale (must show registration)
  • Signed VicRoads vehicle transfer*
  • Copy of insurance documents.
Vehicle is not registered in your name, but you are the main driver
  • Copy of insurance documents (must list you as a driver)
Vehicle is registered in a company name.
  • One of the following:
    • Registration certificate or renewal notice
    • Contract of sale (must show registration)
    • Signed VicRoads vehicle transfer
    • Copy of insurance documents
  • Signed official company letter stating that:
    • you are the main driver
    • the vehicle is housed at the application address.

*We do not accept VicRoads registration extracts. The vehicle transfer document must include the owner/driver's name and the registration number.

  • A medical practitioner parking permit is not valid until the permit is received and physically displayed in a vehicle.

Fees

Fees are valid to 30 June 2025 and exempt from GST.

  • First permit - $153
  • Second permit - $283

How to pay

An invoice will be emailed to you, once your application has been approved.

In person

Pay in person at one of our customer service centres between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Bank cheque or money order payable to Yarra City Council and send it to:

Call 1300 792 772 and follow the prompts.

Receiving your permit

After we've approved your application and received payment, we'll post the permit to the address on the application.

You should then receive your permit within 5 to 10 business days.

Renew your permit

Parking permits expire after 12 months. We'll send you a renewal notice before your permit expires. It will have a reference number for you to pay by credit card.

If your address and vehicle details are the same and your permit hasn't expired, you can pay online or by calling 1300 792 772.

If you need a permit on the spot, visit one of our customer service centres and make sure you bring all required documents.

Change your details

To change your details, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the parking permit renewal notice and change of details section
  2. Submit the completed form and pay the fee (see how to pay section).

Replace your permit

We can replace your permit for a fee of $22.

If your permit was stolen and you can provide a police report, there will be no fee.

You can submit a replacement request online or visit one of our customer service centres.
