Food or health issues
How to report a food hygiene or a food safety issue in Yarra.
Our Environmental Health Officers investigate complaints about food hygiene, foreign object contamination, poor food handling and other health matters within Yarra.
Examples of food hygiene or safety issues include:
- a foreign object found in food
- mouldy or rotten food
- damaged food containers
- packaged foods without proper labelling (example: best before date, nutritional information or country of origin)
- unclean food businesses, personal care businesses, body art businesses or prescribed accommodation businesses.
- poor or questionable food handling procedures or personal care/body art practices
- asbestos or pollution
If you have symptoms of food poisoning such as vomiting, diarrhoea or stomach cramps, we recommend you see your doctor. Please also report it to us.
When reporting a food hygiene or food safety issue please include:
- what you ate, bought or saw
- where, including name and address
- when, including the date and time you ate, bought food or observed a problem
- any other relevant details (for example, a description of person who served you if the complaint relates to food handling).
