Residents interested in learning more about Yarra’s food and garden organic (FOGO) service rollout are invited to attend one of our in-person events.

Yarra City Council is introducing a new kerbside waste stream starting collection on the week of the 1 July 2024. Residents and organisations that receive a kerbside waste collection service from Council will receive a new 120 litre lime green-lidded bin, between April and June 2024, for food and garden organic (FOGO) materials.

This new FOGO collection service will provide our community with a new avenue to reduce waste, recycle more materials and contribute to a circular economy.

Council understands that residents have a range of questions about this service. We’ve organised lots of opportunities for you to discuss these questions with our friendly waste team.

In-person FOGO pop-up sessions will be held on:

  • Saturday 6 April 
  • 12 midday to 2pm 
  • Victoria Park (near the corner of Lulie and Turner Street)
  • Thursday 16 May
  • 4pm to 6pm
  • Corner of Victoria and Nicholson Street, Abbotsford.
  • Saturday 8 June
  • 10am to 12 midday
  • Fairfield Park (Near toilet block)

Our waste team will also be attending Talking Yarra events through the year:

  • Saturday 23 March
  • 10am to 12 midday
  • Gleadell Street Market, Richmond
  • Saturday 20 April
  • 10am to 12 midday
  • Otter Street Reserve, Collingwood 
  • Saturday 20 July
  • 10am to 12 midday 
  • Fitzroy North shopping strip. Near corner of St George’s Road and Scotchmer Street
