We are committed to being a child safe organisation and have a zero tolerance for child abuse.

As part of our commitment to child safety we have developed a range of tools, initiatives and strategies in order to support staff and prioritise the safety of children and young people in the City of Yarra.

This includes increased training for staff, the introduction of Child Safe Officers and a council-wide reporting process and policy.

Our child safe statement of commitment also includes the pledge to support and value all children and our commitment to promoting and prioritising child safety throughout Yarra.

The Victorian Government has introduced child safe standards to provide a minimum and compulsory benchmark to create safe environments for children and young people.

These standards are part of the recommendations made in the Betrayal of Trust report following the Victorian parliamentary inquiry into the handling of child abuse by religious and other non-government organisations.

If you are concerned about the safety of a child or young person call the Department of Health and Human Services – child protection on 1300 664 911 (out of hours 13 12 78). If you think a child is in immediate danger call 000 and ask for the police.

If you are a parent or carer and want information on keeping your child safe, visit NAPCAN, Child Wise or Raising Children Network.
