Yarra Council has named a new retail and dining strip in honour of Richmond Football Club legend Jack Dyer following a groundswell of community support.

The newly completed ‘Dyer Street’ runs between Coppin and Griffiths streets in the Jaques development site in Richmond.

Yarra Mayor Cr Amanda Stone said, “Richmond was in Jack Dyer’s blood. This is where he was born and where he lived, where he went to school and where he owned a business. And as all football fans can attest, he captained the Richmond Tigers with great distinction.”

“As a footballer, broadcaster and small business owner, Jack Dyer embodied the fearless and hardworking spirit of Richmond. It’s only fitting that the man known as ‘Captain Blood’ is now a permanent part of the suburb that was his home.”

More than 1,200 people petitioned Yarra Council in support of the proposal to name a street after Jack Dyer. And Yarra Council agreed, voting unanimously to create ‘Dyer Street’ in August 2014. 

“We’re pleased to be able to join the Dyer family, the Richmond Football Club and the Jack Dyer Tribute Campaign, in celebrating Jack Dyer’s extraordinary contribution to the fabric of our city,” Cr Stone said.
