Body and Soul 1

Brunswick-StreetYarra looks great from the air, and the best way to see it is not from a plane but a hot air balloon!

Richmond-based Balloon Flights Over Melbourne take groups of just 10 passengers on their flights over the city. The pilot will call you to the meeting point in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, well before dawn. Passengers meet around an hour prior to sunrise and transfer to the chosen take-off site by mini-bus. On arrival, you can help prepare the balloon for flight or stand back and watch as it’s fired up. Then climb into the wicker basket for a gentle ascent into the peaceful dawn atmosphere. It’s amazing to see the city wake up from your almost-silent vantage point.

Once the flight has landed, it’s back to the Royal Botanic Gardens for breakfast and a gradual return to earth. After breakfast, take a number 8 tram to Federation Square, then change to a number 48 or 75 along Flinders Street to Bridge Road, Richmond. Endota Spa is on the corner of Bridge Road and Lennox Street (stop 16) and with a wide range of skin treatments – for boys as well as girls – there will be one to enhance your already-relaxed frame of mind. Featuring all-natural Australian ingredients,

As you wake from you state of bliss, head to Bridge Road, where you will be spoilt for choice of lunch venues.

Take the tram along Bridge Road to Punt Road. A short walk south between Bridge Road and Swan Street and almost opposite the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground you will find Niagara Galleries. Known for the exhibition and sale of the finest modern and contemporary Australian art, Niagara represents leading figurative and abstract painters, sculptors, photographers and ceramicists, supporting young talent through an annual, independently-curated exhibition of emerging artists.

It was an early morning and to make the most of your relaxing day you should probably have an early night. But before you do, head to Pearl Restaurant and Bar, which creates modern Australian dishes with the freshest ingredients – with inspiration from near and far. Take a number 70 tram from the corner of Punt Road down Swan Street to Church Street, then change to a 78 (Prahran) or 79 (St Kilda Beach) tram. Pearl’s extensive wine list has something for everyone, and is extremely well-matched to its mouth-watering menu.
