We let surrounding residents know that a planning application has been lodged in one or more of these ways:
- direct mail notification
- on-site signage
- advertisements in the local newspaper.
How do I support or object to a planning application?
Support: If you are happy with a planning permit application proposal you do not need to take any action. However, you can make a submission in support of the application, if you wish.
Object: If you have a reasonable concern about the proposal and wish to object, you must lodge an objection with us. This needs to be done in writing in order for your concern to be considered before a decision is made.
Anyone can lodge a submission to a planning application. When assessing an application we must consider all submissions (letters of support or objections) that have been received before the closing date.

Submissions can be lodged with us any time up to when we make a decision. However, to ensure your support or objection is considered, we recommend you lodge it during the 14-day advertising period.
You must include all of the following in your submission:
- your name and address
- contact email address
- contact number
- planning application reference number and address
- the reason for your submission (whether you support or object to it) and how you would be affected
- your preferred method of contact (email or post)
Important note: A submission is a public document. If requested, we must provide copies of all submissions to other parties, including the applicant, Councillors and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
