At times like this many of us need a bit of extra support.  Below are links to free services and supports for young people in and around Yarra.

Yarra Youth Services

We offer a free service including our Youth Support Program (one-on-one case management) as well as information, support and referrals and a range of fun programs. 

All of our programs are currently offered via phone or online during COVID19.

The Drum youth services 

Information, support and referral, and programs for young people. All services free and offered via phone/zoom during COVID-19.

Queerspace Youth

Peer-led program for Queer, Trans, non-binary, Intersex, Gender Diverse or questioning people aged 18-25 years old.  Facilitated by the drum youth services and Yarra Youth Services.

Brotherhood of St Laurence Homework Club

Homework support and mentoring for secondary school students in Yarra.

Fitzroy Learning Network 

Currently delivering via zoom and taking referrals. The Fitzroy Learning Network offers online activities including a youth craft circle and filmmaking group, plus Refugee and Community Support Service over the phone.

Helping Hands Project

A mentoring program for young people of refugee background aged 14 to 21.

Rotary Next Step Program

The Next Step Program offers additional support for students attending Collingwood College and Fitzroy High, including mentoring and career pathways support. 

Yarra City Arts

Community arts events and activities for young people. Currently all online.

Yarra Libraries

Yarra Libraries branches are all temporarily closed, but offering heaps of online books, music, videos and resources, and online events.

Emergency help for young people

Kids Helpline

Free online and phone counselling service for children and young people 5 to 25.


Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Ask Izzy

The Ask Izzy website connects people who are in crisis with the services they need right now. It can connect you to health, housing, family violence, legal and many more services located near you.


Australia’s leading online mental health organisation for young people and their parents, Reach Out provides practical support, tools and tips to help young people.


By visiting the Headspace website, young people can connect with others, interact with self-help tools and access lots of great mental health resources.

This is in addition to one-to-one direct support that young people can access via headspace centres.

With Respect

WithRespect provides resources, tips and advice for LGBTIQ+ people on having and maintaining healthy relationships.

We also provide support for LGBTIQ+ people of all ages and their families experiencing difficulty in their relationships, including family violence.
