After school care

What is after school care?

We operate after school care at 2 sites across the City of Yarra.

After school care is a fully supervised education and care program for primary school-aged children, held in a safe and stimulating environment.

The after school care program follows the National Quality Framework, including the Education and Care Act & Regulations 2011 and the National Quality Standards.

What children do at an after school care program

Our goal is to create an environment where the needs, interests and requests of the children are supported and extended by qualified staff.

Our programs are child focused and led by the interest of the children.

As a team, we plan activities and provide resources based on our experiences with the children, observations and feedback from children, families and educators. Although a program plan is in place, what occurs on the day is flexible and adapted on the day as directed by the children.

How do I book my child into an after school care program?

You need to download, complete and submit an enrolment form.

Children must be enrolled to attend our after school care program. There is no cost to enrol and it is recommended as you may then use the after school care should you need to unexpectedly. Please allow up to one week for your enrolment to be processed and confirmed.

Once your enrolment into the program has been processed and confirmed:

Regular Bookings: These are entered via the advice on the enrolment form. Please note, casual bookings in addition to permanent days will be charged at the casual rate.
Cancellations: Two weeks notice is required to cancel a regular booking without charge.

Casual Bookings: email aftercare@yarracity.vic.gov.au or contact the service directly via text, phone call or in person.
Cancellations:  Two weeks notice is required to cancel a confirmed casual booking without charge.
Bookings will not be accepted less than 20 minutes before the program start unless due to an emergency.
The program can book out.  Please do not assume you have a place until a confirmation is received.
If you are booking on the day, please ensure you contact the school so they can advise your child.

Non-Attendance
It is very important that you advise us when your child will not be attending a session they are booked for.  If the program is not informed, that triggers a lost child response from us. This could include phone calls to family and emergency contacts, searches of the school and surrounding areas and phone calls to the police.

How much does after school care cost?

Regular bookings cost $18 per day and casual bookings cost $20.50 per day. Fees can vary depending on curriculum day duration.

Government subsidies
Families eligible for a Child Care Benefit (CCB) receive a reduced fee based on their eligibility assessment.
Families may also be eligible for the Child Care 50% rebate, which rebates 50% of families’ out of pocket expenses.
Contact the Family Assistance Office on 13 61 50 (or the multilingual line on 13 12 02)
