Parking in Yarra on public holidays

Friday 06 March 2020

On public holidays, some parking signs across Yarra do not apply.

Whether a parking sign includes a day of the week or not is the key to figuring out if it applies on a public holiday.

Which signs don’t apply on a public holiday?

If a parking sign includes a day of the week, that sign does not apply on a public holiday.

This is because parking requirements on a public holiday are usually different to the day of the week when the specific parking restriction applies.

Which signs do apply on a public holiday?

If a parking sign does not specify a day of the week, the sign will apply on a public holiday.

This is because if there is no day listed on the sign, the parking restriction is needed every day – regardless of whether it’s a weekday, weekend or public holiday.

If a sign specifies public holidays, it will also apply.

What happens when a public holiday falls on a weekend?

When a public holiday falls on a weekend, and a day in lieu has been declared by the Victorian Government, our public holiday parking rules only apply on the public holiday – not on the day in lieu.

For example, if Boxing Day falls on a Sunday and the Monday is declared as the day in lieu, our public holiday parking rules would only be applied on the Sunday.
