Wellington St Copenhagen bike lane to be extended
Wednesday 20 March 2019
The Wellington Street Copenhagen-style bike lane in Collingwood is set to be extended to provide a safer and better connected journey for cyclists, as part of Towards Zero: Victoria's plan to ensure no one is seriously injured on our roads.
The protected bike lanes will run from Gipps Street to Johnston Street, which extends from the existing lanes that run from Victoria Parade to Gipps Street.
The extension of the protected bike lanes is being delivered in partnership with VicRoads and the TAC to improve safety in our local community and aligns with Council’s vision to create a city that is connected, sustainable and safe.
The construction of the extended protected bike lanes is expected to start in May 2019 and will take approximately 4 months to complete, finishing in September. During the construction of the new bike lane, detours will be in place for cyclists but road use for pedestrians and motorists is expected to remain the same.
We are putting measures in place to minimise disruptions for local residents, commuters and business owners, which includes working in phases rather than impacting the whole street at one time.
