What improvements are we making? 

Take a look at the different projects taking place on Victoria Street as part of our response to over 2,300 ideas we received from our 2017 community consultation.

The works aim to make Victoria Street a more vibrant and welcoming place for residents and visitors.

1. Improving shop fronts 

We are supporting 10 shops by improving their shopfronts to enhance the appearance of Victoria Street.

2. Installing roller shutter artwork

We are installing 15 roller shutters with artwork designed by local children to brighten up the street.

3. Upgrading the intersection of Victoria, Nicholson and Lennox Street

We are installing new paving, bicycle hoops, bicycle lane, furniture and landscaping.

4. Street cleaning of Victoria Street

We are doing regular cleans of Victoria Street which includes cleaning bins, footpaths, posters and removing graffiti.

Victor Chen is one of 10 businesses who have received support from Yarra Council to have their shop front upgraded. 

Victor owns the fruit and vegetable shop Chan Phat on Victoria Street. He is a third generation small-business owner and took over the shop 5 years ago. 

“I am a Richmond Football Club supporter, so working here makes sense”, Victor laughs.

“I noticed that some roller shutters had been painted with impressive artwork along the street so I contacted Yarra Council to see if there was anything that could be done with my shop.”

He hopes that the projects will help revive the look and feel of Victoria Street. 

“We have seen the way Swan Street has taken off in recent years. We have our fingers crossed Victoria Street can do the same.”

“This area has lots of potential. There is great food and culture. Having the support of Yarra Council is greatly appreciated and hopefully we can see Victoria Street thrive.”
