Have your say on improving local streets

Roundabout pedestrian crossing

We’re working with our community to make our local streets safer, more liveable and easier to walk and cycle around.

We’ve developed a plan to improve local streets in North Fitzroy, Richmond and Abbotsford, are now we’re asking residents to tell us what they think.

The plan was developed after we asked the local community to share their concerns about traffic and other issues that impact the liveability and safety of their street.

We also formed a working group in each area made up of residents, businesses, schools and councillors so we could further understand issues in the area.

We heard that some of the main concerns for residents are pedestrian safety, traffic speeds, and cars using local roads as short cuts.

Our proposed improvements respond to what we heard from the community and are available to view in more detail on an online map.

We encourage local residents to read the proposed improvements on the maps for North Fitzroy, Richmond and Abbotsford and to provide feedback by leaving a comment.

Feedback is due by 5pm, Tuesday 17 July 2018.

Community feedback will be used to develop a final plan that will be considered by Council for formal adoption.

This project is part of a wider Council program known as Local Area Place Making.

Place making is a collaborative approach to creating public spaces that meet the needs and aspirations of the community.

At Yarra, this focuses on road safety, and improvements to walking and cycling, landscaping, street trees and parking management.

Our Local Area Place Making program is rolled out precinct-by-precinct and considers conditions in a whole area, instead of just focusing on single streets.
