Holding hands coloured like a rainbow flag

Yarra  welcomes the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) announcement today that Australians have returned an overwhelming ‘yes’ vote to the Federal Government’s marriage equality survey.

You can see the full results from the survey on the ABS website.

While the majority of Australians have responded yes in the postal survey legislation will still have to pass through Federal Parliament before the Marriage Act can be changed to allow LGBTIQ Australians to marry.

Yarra is a strong supporter of marriage equality and will continue to fly rainbow flags over each of our town halls until equal rights for our LGBTIQ community are achieved.

We hope that our community will to continue to support friends and family members through what has already been a difficult process, with the hope that marriage equality will be achieved by the end of this year.
