Business Profile: Mountain Goat Beer
Tuesday 17 October 2017
Mountain Goat Beer might be a familiar name, but you may not have met the founders Cam Hines and Dave Bonighton. We ask them about their start with the business.
"We separately saw the beginnings of the craft beer movement in North America in the early to mid 90’s. We thought Australia really needed more choice and more flavour in the beer choices so we set on doing something about that. The first keg of Mountain Goat beer was tapped at the Great Britain Hotel, another Yarra icon, twenty years ago in October 1997."
Mountain Goat didn't start in Yarra, but was destined for a Richmond location. "Richmond just always felt like a good fit for Goat, with its good, honest, industrial roots... When we first started Mountain Goat we actually had an office in South Yarra. Richmond sounded much cooler to us, so we got a PO Box in Richmond, so we could get the 3121 address!"
