With demand for parking in Yarra far outstripping supply, Council is exploring new ways to free-up spaces for residents and customers, and to make paid-parking fairer and easier for everyone.

Council recently commenced installation of 4,000 underground sensors in timed (but not paid) parking bays.

The new technology encourages drivers to comply with time restrictions, creating more free bays for locals in residential areas and customers in commercial areas.

The sensors are being located primarily in Richmond and Cremorne, as well as in other high-demand areas.

Local residents and businesses are receiving notification ahead of line-marking and installation works to minimise inconvenience.
