Leaps and Bounds Music Festival

Tuesday 21 February 2017

Yarra City Council is proud to present the third annual Leaps and Bounds Music Festival from Friday 3 July until Sunday 19 July across local live music venues.

The 17 day festival includes around 300 events featuring more than 800 acts and is expected to attract thousands of music lovers to the city.

“Leaps and Bounds is a celebration of Yarra’s dynamic live music scene and the many local venues that nurture it,” said Yarra Mayor, Cr Phillip Vlahogiannis.

“Council is pleased to be contributing $100,000 to the festival this year,” he said.

While the main focus is on traditional venues, there will also be specially curated events in unusual performance spaces. A range of exciting new events have been added to the program this year to provide even more choice for gig-goers.

“For the first time the Melba Spiegeltent, a unique performance space in Collingwood, is being used as a festival venue.  Another first is the mini festival over two stages at the legendary Corner Hotel,” Cr Vlahogiannis said.

“To ensure that young people don’t miss out, there will be all ages events, including a free skate park gig, a symposium at Bakehouse Studios and a FreeZa show.”

“No matter what your taste in live music, the Leaps and Bounds program will have something for you.”

“It is fantastic to see this annual festival, which takes its name from the Paul Kelly song Leaps and Bounds, go from strength to strength since its inception in 2013,” he said

Festival partners include: Music Victoria, PBS 106.7FM, the Music, Quiet Deeds, Bendigo Bank Clifton Hill/Fitzroy North Community Branch and Nelson Alexander.
