Fitzroy Adventure Playground grant

Learn more about the adventure playground and why it's important for our community.

The Fitzroy Adventure Playground Grant provides up to three years of funding to a not-for-profit organisation to operate and manage the Fitzroy Adventure Playground.

Adventure playgrounds offer a range of equipment so children can experiment and learn how to safely navigate risk and test their boundaries. They are open during set hours and children are supervised by qualified staff and volunteers.

The adventure playground in Fitzroy is located near the Atherton Gardens public housing estate.

The Fitzroy Adventure Playground has always been operated by a community committee of management or a not-for-profit organisation. The playground is managed by The Venny, who signed a three-year agreement starting in 2024. It was previously managed by Save the Children.

What will be considered for a community grant?

Although grant applications for the 2023-2026 grant have now closed, you can view the Community Grant Guidelines [ PDF, 318.77 KB] .

Why is Council funding the service with a grant?

A competitive grants process helps us choose the best provider, one that offers a high-quality service at great value for the community.

Will families have to pay to use the service in the future?

The grant guidelines specify the playground must be free and open to school aged children after school hours.

Why do we call it the 'Fitzroy Adventure Playground' and not 'Cubbies'?

Cubbies is a specific program. If there is a change of provider for the Fitzroy Adventure Playground, there may be a different name and/or a different mix of activities.
