New musical adventures across a range of genres for a new community of young artists on display as they take flight after a 4 month program with The Boite. Young bands, composers and singers, informed by their divergent cultural backgrounds offer listeners songs that are original, warm, rhythmic and compelling.

The Boite’s emerging diverse artists’ showcase is part of their inaugural Portfolio Project initiative. With Music Victoria, The Boite facilitated networking and professional development opportunities for early career artists in Naarm.

Line-up:

Carlos Rojas (Solo)
Carlos has been performing for over 15 years in the music scene in Peru and in Australia. Since moving to Australia he has frequented and performed as a vocalist in various Naarm/Melbourne music institutions like The Old Bar and The Night Cat with Psychedelic Cumbian band ‘The Amazonics’. As a singer-songwriter, his music is inspired by Andean music of Peru, and artists like Caetano Veloso, Coldplay and Jorge Drexler amongst many others.

Stefan Nocevski (Duo)
In an exciting new collaboration, Macedonian born trumpet player Stefan Nočevski has partnered with guitarist Valentino Gikovski to offer listeners a new spin on the Macedonian music they both grew up with.

While Stefan grew up immersed in traditional music, learning trumpet as soon as he could play it, and becoming expert in the exhilarating wildness of Macedonian Gypsy brass, Valentino turned his hand to Flamenco guitar. Together they have developed a sort of ethno/Macedonian music for trumpet and guitar, elegant, compellingly rhythmic, melodically charming.

Pomaa (Band)
Fascinated by the complexities of human connection, Pomaa crafts intricate tales of relationships between loved ones, friends and self. Her music is a mixture of driving alternative rock and waltz-like dream pop, making listeners reminisce about the ups and downs of life and the people in it.

Her debut single, “I Can’t Wait ‘Til This Doesn’t Matter”, was an exploration of overthinking and ultimately recognising that it is a temporary state of mind. It acknowledges the inner conflict of reliving your past but also represents hope for the time when these thoughts no longer weigh you down.

Pomaa is now planning to record her debut EP, Bridge to Somewhere, which she is expecting to release in 2023.

Yi-Lynn (Band)
Gothic and unapologetic, Melbourne’s Yi-Lynn dissects bloody topics: gore, the apocalypse, and love. With a stronghold on the technical elements of folk, classical, indie and pop song writing, Yi-Lynn has garnered praise from triple j and community radio across Australia.

Yi-Lynn’s new EP ‘Foul Water’ encapsulates everything that makes Yi-Lynn such a special songwriter. The arrangements may be gentle and beautiful, but there is no coyness to this record; Yi-Lynn is flexing her power here, knowing that she only needs to whisper to command the attention of the room.

Misagh Zamani Ensemble (Band)
Misagh Zamani was born in a musical family in Iran, and began performing with his father’s band at the age of 4. A musical prodigy, Misagh soon learnt to play 16 instruments, from classical such as piano, guitar and clarinet to traditional daf, setar, oud and duduk to name a few. Having recently sold out his first appearance with his ensemble at La Mama Musica, Misagh says: “I want my music to be the voice of abandoned cultures, buried histories, and forgotten arts. My goal is to bring oneness and unity between all sounds and instruments, to produce a unique music that sounds familiar to all international listeners.”

Misagh’s ensemble will feature a mix of traditional Persian instruments and Western instruments including tar, setar, oud, kemanche, piano, accordion, duduk, and percussion.
