Bandwagon #4 at Citizens Park

Sunday 22 May 2022

Hailed as one of the best creative pivots of 2020, The Bandwagon is a new, innovative, COVID Safe live entertainment venue.

Just as the original Taco Truck packaged up the flavour of Mexico & brought it to the people, The Bandwagon packages the flavour of an intimate jazz/music club & brings it curb-side featuring some of Yarra’s young musical talent, including Jake & Anja, Kitty Foley, Abougelis/Blackham/Lee, the Charlie Rolfe Band and the Richmond Youth Brass Band.

Richmond High School’s Year 9 Entrepreneurial Project will be onsite selling their wares during the event. So come buy a treat and support local burgeoning businesses.

Free event, no tickets required.

Jake and Anja

Jake Carlson and Anja Duiker both study jazz and improvisation at Melbourne Uni’s VCA.
Jake (guitar/vocals) has performed with Missy Higgins, Foreigner, and the MSO in venues such as Hamer Hall, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Centre. He particularly enjoys playing blues and R&B.

Anja loves exploring various genres but particularly enjoys R&B and soul. She hopes to not only gain experience in being a performer, but in the future, learn more about producing and studio recording also.

Abougelis Blackham Lee

Meeting in first year in the jazz course at the VCA, Claire, Elly and Abi bring together a set of standards and originals inspired by 1960s jazz and contemporary Australian jazz. Performed in a trio setting featuring saxophone, piano and double bass, they highlight beautiful melodies and the freedom of playing in a close ensemble.
Abi Lee (Piano), Claire Abougelis (Upright Bass), Elly Blackham (Tenor Sax)

Charlie Rolfe is extremely passionate about all things jazz.  A year 11 student, Charlie has played piano and trombone in several ensembles and big bands within and without school in various jazz, soul, funk and R&B manifestations.  Charlie's band features some killer horns and a tight rhythm section.

Richmond Youth Brass Band is a brand new community ensemble - rehearsals started just three weeks ago. Made up of former students of Richmond West Primary School's outstanding Brass Band programme, RYBB allows these students who have gone off to various schools to continue to make music together. The band is conducted by Adam Arnold. New members are welcome, email [email protected] for more information.

This event is part of Rediscover Yarra.

Presented by Yarra City Arts with The Bandwagon.
