Henry Mass I Mysterioso

Thursday 13 June 2019 - Sunday 30 June 2019

'Two Men', Acrylic on Canvas, 60 x 45, 2019

At the forefront of the Fitzroy and Melbourne avante-garde scene since the mid 1970’s, Henry Maas is a well known figure in the City of Yarra.

He was the mastermind and lead singer of The Bachelor’s From Prague jazz band, creator of the iconic Black Cat Cafe in Brunswick St, The Night Cat music nightspot in Johnston St, and the plush art deco Blue Diamond night spot in Queen St Melbourne…Henry Maas is Fitz-royalty.

Recently awarded a Yarra Council Small Grant for an exhibition at Red Gallery in Fitzroy North, Maas will be showcasing his paintings as well as sculptures and constructions. His approach to his artwork, and viewers, suggests he is not only an artist and bohemian but a comedian who is delightfully free from social constraints. His work will make you smile.

Fittingly, Red Gallery is delighted to host such royalty. Operating since 2002, Red Gallery has been showcasing emerging and established local artists and nurturing and supporting living artists for 17 years on St Georges Rd, North Fitzroy.
