The Line art exhibition by the 69 Collective

Friday 19 October 2018 - Thursday 01 November 2018

Julian Di Martino, Food Mart, 83cm x 109cm.

The 69 Collective is an artist run initiative responding to contemporary issues, individual expression and group endeavors through community involvement in diverse visual art practices.

The 69 Collective comprises established and emerging visual artists with diverse interests and practices, from a range of cultural, educational and artistic backgrounds. The Collective’s home is Collingwood and Abbotsford as it originated in a gallery space at 69 Smith Street in Collingwood before the building was sold in 2017. The group now operates as an arts collective without walls.

The theme of the Line exhibition is the horizontal line. Works will be hung with a consistent line travelling through each piece around the perimeter of the gallery space. The line in each work could be inferred or explicit but will gather the group of works as a whole. The work may not necessarily be a landscape and artists have been encouraged to allow their creativity to travel. The line could depict focused movement from one point to another hinting at the passing of time. Artworks might be conceptual, abstract, sound based or sculptural. It is hoped the exhibition will highlight artists' responses to the line and enable discussions about art and the sharing of artists lived experiences.

This exhibition has received a City of Yarra Small Project Grant.
