Devi

Friday 20 July 2018 - Sunday 22 July 2018

Devi (Goddess) is an exploration of the Sufi saying, ‘Death before you die.’ It’s about shedding our old self and having the courage to step into a new skin. This experimental dance drama piece is curated and directed by Joshinder Chaggar who also features in the show with Jaya Karan and Parvyn Singh.

Through their unique form of expression, each performer represents a specific Devi.

Joshinder Chaggar is an experimental, modern dance artist who plays Hari, a traveler on a treacherous journey of self-discovery, seeped in fear.

Jaya Karan performs the classical Indian dance, Bharatnatyam in her portrayal of Kali, goddess of death. She shows us a very different face of death, one that loves and not to be feared but embraced.

On vocals, live instruments (Taanpura & Sitar) and the loop peddle is Parvyn Singh. She plays Jara, goddess of old age who explores the fruit of effort and experience of rising above a situation, gaining excellence and becoming your full potential.
