Metamorphy

Tuesday 05 December 2017 - Thursday 25 January 2018

Katherine Marmaras, Untitled 1, 2016, collage of vintage wallpaper remnants, indian ink and coloured pencil

Katherine Marmaras is a Melbourne-based visual artist who incorporates printmaking techniques to create works exploring the notion that art may be purely decorative. Patterns, motifs and textures found in nature, architecture, interiors and textiles constantly inform her work.

A selection of remnant vintage wallpapers found during a Saturday morning shop led to the development of her Metamorphy series which addresses the concepts of decoration and abstraction by juxtaposing these notions through collage and the interconnectedness of doodling.

Katherine was recently shortlisted for the Burnie Print Prize 2017 and the 2017 Manly Library Artists’ Book Award. Her work has been exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, in select group and award exhibitions and is represented in public and private collections including the National Gallery of Australia and the Brooklyn Art Library in Brooklyn, New York.
